Hershey's Milk Chocolate Kisses
Hershey's Kisses are a distinctly American chocolate treat. Manufactured by the Hershey's Company in Hershey, PA, for over 100 years, Kisses are a hugely popular form of chocolate. Hershey's Kisses were first manufactured in 1907. According to the Hershey's Company, a favorite theory is that the name "Kiss" came from the sound of the chocolate being popped out of the machine. Hershey's Kisses have remained in production since 1907, with the exception of the war years of 1942 through 1949, when the silver foil wrapping was rationed. In 1962, the first color foils were used to celebrate seasonal holidays such as Christmas, Valentine's Day and Easter. According to Hershey's.com, it takes about 95 Hershey's Kisses to equal a pound of chocolate. Kisses are manufactured in chocolate factories located in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Over 80 million Kisses a day roll out of these plants. On July 7, 2007, Hershey's Kisses celebrated 100 years by breaking the world's record and manufacturing a chocolate Kiss that weighed 30,540 pounds.
